That goes all the way back to the Simpson's 3rd season. In the episode, Homer get's the team to the championship game, only to have Mr. Burns bring in ringers (Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Darryl Strawberry, Ozzie Smith and others). In the climax of the show, Homer is in as a pinch hitter with a tie score, 2 outs, bases loaded bottom of the ninth.
