Book Review: Where the Wind Leads
This is an epic family journey which rivals that of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!
This book needs to be made into a movie.
This gripping events in Where the Wind Leads, by Vinh Chung with Tim Downs, are proof that God's mercy, grace, and love cannot be defeated by even the worst and most inhumane crimes committed by wicked men.
The Chung family was once a destitute group of ethnic Chinese living in Vietnam. Through their strength of determination, they built a vast business empire from nothing. Then they lost everything again. A hostile communist government deprived them of their wealth, property, and livelihood. In 1979, as conflict between Vietnam and China was escalating, adversity against Chinese families like the Chungs grew exponentially. It was at this time that the Chung family decided to leave Vietnam and what little belongings they had been able to keep.
They took to the sea, where they encountered hunger, dehydration, betrayal, and even bloodthirsty pirates.
They took to the sea, where the slightest breeze could mean the difference between rescue and ruin.
Beyond the harrowing experience adrift on open water, this book chronicles how a refugee family faced a bewildering new culture, the constant strain of poverty, and the ugly reality of racism. There's even a charming love story as well.
I cannot give this book higher recommendation. Its excellent writing is sure to educate, thrill, and inspire.
