Soon, ski season will be gone and baseball season will be the only thing happening.

Here's hoping that will be an improvement for Rockies fans . . .

Baseball Dream Theater VII

While watching a Rockies game just after the season has started, I write a blog post that is heavily critical of the Rox, saying that they will never have success with the four man/piggyback rotation, which they have apparently implemented again.

An inning or two after my post goes up

Do you like the canigetthecombonumberone?

This snowy scene is NOT Colorado Springs...

It is Boiling Springs, North Carolina, of course.

That was the exciting part of a

A perfect debut...

Not long after being traded to the Rockies, LHP P. Magirk III received this good news:

Then, in his first big league start, a batter hit a grounder that deflected off Fatty's leg.  But he kept his cool, scooped up the ball and fired it to first.  Next, this happened:

Happy President's Day, baseball fans!

What would President's Day be without some racing presidents?

Well, without any baseball games being played, they had to take to the ice:

2013 American Discovery Trail Race: Team World Vision

Jesus said "whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14)

When Jesus said this, he was speaking about the salvation he freely offers.  While this spiritual water is available to all who come to him in faith, it is a sad reality that clean drinking water is not available to all.

I am running a half marathon with Team World Vision to help change lives in Africa.  Please help provide clean drinking water to those in need as I train for this race!

Phil Coke is a hopeless romantic...

Who knew that facial hair is the key to relationship conflict resolution?

Others, though, aren't so lucky on days like today.  Others, like John Axford here:

Book Review: Calico Joe

"Baseball is sunshine, green grass, fathers and sons, our rural past."
--Albert Theodore Powers

For many, our national pastime is what brings together fathers and sons, if not entire families.  But what about when the opposite is true?  What about the instances where baseball is what drives a father and son apart?

For some, baseball builds up heroes and creates glamorous, extravagant lifestyles.  But what about when the opposite is true?  What about the instances where baseball tragically cripples and ruins a young life?

When such tragedies occur, what can one man do?

Those questions lie at the heart of John Grisham's touching 2012 book Calico Joe.
