What should the MLB do about instant replay?
Thor's Day Thoughts
Rather than creating an "flying pitch man," I would be more impressed if these guys made a cyborg umpire. At least it backed up home plate at 3:40. Also, what's up with the lack of foul territory at 4:23?

They have already blown two calls. Both went in the Nats favor. If I were in Tracy's shoes I would have already been ejected.

Rox find pitching coach of the future?
This afternoon, Bob Apodaca stepped down from his duties as pitching coach for the Colorado Rockies. Shortly before tonight's game against the Washington Nationals, OSITF obtained this photo of a mysterious arrival at Coors Field. As of press time, OSITF has not been able to confirm that this photo shows the Rockies pitching coach of the future, but our investigation team will pass along any updates as they become available.

Now, I know you might be asking yourself a few questions:
1) Does Bill Murray really own the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League?
2) Has Bill Murray really been inducted into the South Atlantic League Hall of Fame?
3) Isn't there another minor league team called the River Cats?
4) Speaking of minor league teams with cat mascots, isn't there also the Fisher Cats, the Rock Cats, the Mudcats, and the ValleyCats?
5) The South Atlantic League, isn't that the league that

Basketball is over!
Apparently, some jerk's team became champion of basketball last night. Unlike many others, I am content with this development, not that I like the team/players that won--which I don't--but instead because this now means basketball is over. Baseball no longer has any significant competition on the landscape of American Sports. Now when I have dinner at the local sports bar, I hopefully won't have to make a special request to put the Rockies game on just one of the fifty TVs they have. Honestly, is anyone here really watching that offseason edition of NFL Live? Without any audio?
Can you spot the baseball game? I know it's difficult with that hottie in the picture. |
I know what you're thinking, and yes, I realize that the Rockies aren't any good this year, and that the end of the basketball playoffs doesn't mean that interest in the Rockies is suddenly going skyrocket. Any dedicated reader of this blog already knows that I am well aware of how bad the Rox are. Still, baseball is now at center stage. Maybe the Rockies game won't be prominent at the watering hole, but most likely a different baseball game will be. Baseball is the national pastime, and for a few months it will have it's rightful place as the main focus of dignified sports media.
Enjoy it, America. Just don't order the Carolina Burger. It's description makes it sound great, but the last time I ordered it, it made me sick. Twice.
Go Rockies.

Jim Tracy has gone off the deep end.
This is not going to end well.
Those are the rules for the Little League World Series, right? I guess Tracy is trying to go out with a bang. Insanity.

Tulo on the mend!
A few minutes ago, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox started an early afternoon game against the Reno Aces. Besides the interesting Drew Pomeranz v. Trevor Bauer pitching matchup, this game is notable because SS Troy Tulowitzki will be in the Sky Sox starting lineup as part of a minor league rehab assignment. Sadly, I cannot attend the game due to work obligations. But I've been there before.
I attended the June 17, 2008 Sky Sox game against the Salt Lake Bees. It was another rehab assignment for Tulo and also the first AAA game in his career. He went 2 for 4 with an RBI double as the Sox beat the Bees 4-2. After the game, he stayed for a long time to sign autographs for the fans, including a ball on the sweet spot for me. Troy Tulowitzki is a class act. This season has been rough for Rockies fans, but players like Tulo can keep even the most lousy season interesting and fun for the fans.

Bryce Harper is great. Not only did he vaporize a baseball last night in Toronto, but he also had an epic retort to a reporter's question about whether he would celebrate by taking advantage of Canada's lower drinking age. See for yourself:
You can already buy the t-shirt online. He crushes it on the field and keeps it clean off the field. Is Bryce Harper baseball's Tim Tebow?

Crooked number
Perhaps it's best that this photo is blurry. The actual scoreboard is a bit depressing. Leading 6-2 entering the top of the 6th, the Sky Sox blew the lead in spectacular fashion. The Aces scored 10 runs and now lead 12-6. Ugh!
Buy me some peanuts and candy apples...
"Best baseball food ever!" On Tuesdays, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at Security Service Field sells candy apples for $2 off, so we decided to get two and skip the peanuts.

NOW IS THE TIME.

2012 has certainly been a volatile season for closers. It is the year
of the blown save. Probably more than any other factor, this has led to
the movement to change the PFBL's roster format. Now some (Jefe) might
argue that this season is just an aberration and therefore we shouldn't
change anything. That logic seems a bit shallow to me. No, this
turbulent year has exposed a rare flaw in the PFBL--the disparity of
closers available on waivers. Rather than ignore the writing on the
wall (not to mention the majority of league sentiment) and plod ahead
using an imperfect system, the PFBL should take this opportunity to
adapt, to better itself. I believe it was William Wallace who said,
"those who do not learn from the History Channel are doomed to repeat
the History Channel."

Third Time's a Charm
The Colorado Rockies have finally won a game that I have attended! It only took three tries, but I suppose that is to be expected when they have a .434 winning percentage. We actually witnessed a pitcher's duel at Coors Field as the Rox defeated the Los Angeles Doyers 3-2. It was a very hot day, but an umbrella helped us make it to the shaded late innings. Mrs. JT and I met the Parents at the game since we weren't able to celebrate Mother's Day together. It was hot, but fun to see the good guys win.
