Monday Minutiæ

Today's Minutiæ is dedicated to former Chicago Cub Daryl Robertson, this guy:

Robertson's major league career was brief.  In his 1962 fortnight with the Cubs, he put up these staggering numbers:
That's right, in nine games he had two hits in twenty-two plate appearances.  That's a batting average of .105.  He also walked twice, drove in two, and struck out ten times.  No wonder he didn't last very long in The Show.

Why am I writing about such an obscure, lousy player?  Well, it's not because his picture was once altered to become an Ernie Banks card.  No, OSITF honors Daryl Robertson today because he was born in Cripple Creek, Colorado, and according to Baseball Reference, he is the only major league baseball player that was born in Teller County, Colorado.

Here's to you, Daryl!

  2. When you are born in Teller County, Colorado, in 1936, there's probably need for that sign. Do you suppose claim jumping was still happening? For that matter, is it still happening in 2012?

    1. Claim jumping still happens in Cripple Creek today, but only in the casinos.

  4. Wonder how Phil was related to Cleo? Cleo was the Louisville City Clerk. I always heard she loved children and sports. That's why the park is named for her.
