How NOT to hit for average

Brought to you by Adrián Beltré.

Two notes about the Rays:

The Good: Last night Sam Fuld missed the cycle by a single. What's more interesting is that, in the 9th inning, with a 14-4 lead, Fuld hit his second double of the night, choosing to leg out the two-bagger rather than hold at first to complete the cycle--unlike one Dante Bichette. Impressed by the ex-Cub's selfless hustle, the 5th place Normal Baseball Inc added Fuld, dropping current Cub Tyler Colvin in the process.

The Ugly: Manny Ramirez's historic tenure with the Rays has come to an end. Rumor has it that Manny is trying once again to get pregnant. Good riddance! Enjoy never setting foot in Cooperstown, Manny!

  1. I mean come on! "Bichette hit the first pitch he saw over Rusty Greer's head in center field to score Vander Wal. The ball short-hopped off the wall." ..and yet it was only a single!

  2. I think the "2-hands" hit was ruled a single due to defensive indifference as the game was over with him safe at first and Johnny-van-over-der-Wall scoring. A walk off if you will.

  3. Hey, you don't have to rub it in, JT! It hurt me to drop Colvin - he's my boy for all time. But he's hitting .188 and I need help in the OF.

  4. I think Beltre is demonstrating the Sammy Sosa philosophy of hitting - Swing hard in case you hit it. Who's team is Beltre on anyways?!?! At least he didn't miss completely.
